Emerald & Doreen Records will name their new dog “Joy” or something.
Up and coming music mag buffaloblog.com stated a „highly earpleasing outcome“. That was the last time. Last time Charles Bordeaux put out his Fables EP, this New York-State resident shocked musiclovers around the world with his lush and groovy candies. Now, the hit on Fables gets its well-deserved special treatment: Blood Pacts, now being resurrected by its second name Weeds.
In there, a farmer meets a man who offers him land. The Farmer takes on more than he can handle, and buys unfarmable land, wasting money & time. Oh, would he rather appreciate what he already has! The drama of will and loss is told in the Bordeaux way, by means of an ultimately happy psychedelic soul music: heavenly choirs, chilled out beats.
Emerald & Doreen-artist Copycat cuts a jacking bassline to the original and takes it to the freaky floors. Tronik Youth select icy bleeps and e-drums to let the piece jump up on high plateau soles. Chromatic Dream let a sub-bass wander through their majestic landscape, all shook in slow motion. OMFG Zombies speed the track up to a peak-time electro house stunt, while Mikael Fas lets the synthie bass sing like a fox. Finally, Deluce re-invents Weeds as a power drum fantasy. A well-deserved bouquet of interpretations of a stunning piece of music.

Charles Bordeaux: Fables (Ep, Emerald & Doreen Records, 2013)
Charles Bordeaux is a producer, singer/songwriter from Long Island, living in Buffalo, NY. ‘Fables’ is a concept EP that explores the ideas of gratitude and appreciation, lyrically and sonically.
The lyrics are written in story-form, starring a farmer and a personified figure of time. It all begins by ‘The Sandman’, the song forming the equivalent to the preface of a novel. The lyrics set the theme of appreciation, stating: When man was born upon this land, He was given by time a handful of sand. Time told the man to treasure each grain, For each piece of sand won’t be used again. To put it simply: you have one life. Treasure every memory/experience. After that, First Grain attempts to recreate the feelings of childhood for the listener. The following sequel is called Bloodpacts: The Weeds. The Farmer meets a man who offers him land. The Farmer takes on more than he can handle, and buys unfarmable land, wasting money & time. Oh, would he rather appreciate what he already has! Nostalgia also attempts to recreate the feelings of childhood within the listener, but with various organic samples (no restrictions via Creativ e Commons). Sounds vary from campfires to children at school, laughter, etc. Finally, The Forest & The Moon ties both The Sandman & Bloodpacts together, ending the EP… The Farmer looks back appreciating the past, and takes out his motorcycle (antique model). He rides to his favorite location in the woods and sees time under the moonlight. Here the Farmer reaches his life’s end, as he “resteps his trail” to Time.
Now go and imagine all that in a fragile, splissed kind of psychelic soul music.
