SéanceintheSun: Please be mine (2012)

"It’s been a good while since we’ve heard anything from the lo-fi California dudes SéanceintheSun. At least a year by my count. Anyways the guys have broken their silence with a new EP, Please Be Mine, and it steps in a slightly different direction than their previous material. Ignoring the ironic (and played-out?) occultic imagery on the cover art, I’d encourage you to dig a bit deeper on this one. The guys’ previous material fell under the category of sun-bleached, lo-fi garage rock that seemed so popular a year or so ago. Now while their stuff was certainly good (especially the vocals), it is easy to see how it would get lost in a sea of saminess like so much music that blips on the blogosphere’s radar. Enter Please Be Mine and I’m considerably more impressed with what these guys are doing. They’ve infused their formula with a great deal more heart resulting in catchier melodies and stronger songwriting. This great little EP plows the teen pop era of the 1960’s (even covering “Earth Angel”) and the guitar-driven indie rock of the 1990’s for influence in equal measure. It’s a winning formula and one that should help these guys stick in the memory a bit more this go around" (cactus-mouth.tumblr.com)
