Tommy Tousaint: Only want you (Single, 2011)

"Out of all the songs that I’ve heard from my pal Tommy Toussaint (which, granted, is only an EP and a cassingle) I must declare that “Summer USA” is not only my favorite but it is also his strongest track to date. It’s a summer anthem of sorts that Tommy managed to squeeze out here in the last dwindling days of the warm weather. Only downside is that we didn’t have this jam to listen to all summer long. It would’ve easily made some of my summer mixtapes, but oh well.
When I say that this track is his best song yet I truly mean that. Unlike some of his older stuff, “Summer USA” isn’t squeezed through a quirkly, warbling songwriting funnel. It’s much more straightforward with a classic pop sound that feels like it could be belong to any number of eras (a trick that Tommy has employed before). It almost reminds me of something that Nick Diamonds would pen if only his knack for weirdness didn’t sit front seat so often.
Accompanying this track is some other awesome news. This track is the A-side to Tommy’s debut 7” out soon on
Make Mine Records! You can pre-order it now over on the Rough Trade shop so don’t hesitate. Summer is almost over!" (Via: cactusmouth.tumblr.com)
