Waylon Thorton and The Heavy Hands: Berger picard (2011)
"For the record (just so it’s perfectyl clear) Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands is not a solo project. If Waylon is flying solo he just uses his name (simple enough). Add the “Heavy Hands” tag and that’s a whole different story… that makes it a family affair. You see Waylon’s wife Meg plays drums and her presence is where the Heavy Hands comes in. And I’m assuming it’s a play on words because Meg brings the noise just as much as Waylon does. The two of them (with a little “help” from their baby boy Dex) recorded this mini-album in their house and then graciously offered to let me premiere it. So here we are!
Now if you’ve listend to WT&tHH before then you know that this duo loves raucous, lo-fi garage rock. And while “noise” might not have necessarily been the operative word on all of their releases in the past it certainly is here. There is so much energy bursting forth and that delicious crackling sound you here in your speakers is proof. The songs are fast, loud, and deliberately invasive. There is no middle ground. You are either running in fear or you are braving the storm head-on (I think I chipped a tooth listening to this somehow). So if you’re in the mood to shake things up a bit I definitely recommend downloading Berger Picard. Like all of their other releases you can get it for free on their bandcamp" (Enjoy: cactusmouth.tumblr.com)
