Seeds of Doubt: DCP (Ep, 2014)

"Here’s another tardy tape review on account of my recently-deceased cassette player. This one’s on the always-great Italian Beach Babes and it’s a band I haven’t heard before called Seeds of Doubt. They’ve got crunchy jangly rhythm guitars, along with a nice crisp lead that’s almost surfy sounding, all topped off with naive vocals liberally dosed with dreamy reverb and doubled up on the choruses. I’m pretty sure this lot are from London but their hazy, shambly aesthetic contains more than a trace of ‘80s Australian bands like The Clean, mixed with more recent American slacker pop types like Triptides or Big Troubles. The recording is lo-fi but well balanced and the songs are all lazily paced and full of casual but catchy melodies. I’m liking the falsetto call and response chorus in closer ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’. These are all catchy songs in a charming and instantly-familiar style. I think our Clint will probably like it."
