Shinies: Taste (Ep, 2013)

"2012 saw SHINIES release two singles, which were blogged by every blog worth knowing, as well as receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Noisey, NME, This Is Fake DIY and The Line of Best Fit. The controversial video for their last single ‘Ennui,’ which featured 90’s icon Pat Sharp, even managed to capture the attention of The Sun and Daily Mail. Their debut EP, Tangle, is their most accomplished music to date and is released via Dirty Bingo Records (Novella, Woman’s Hour, Drop Out Venus) on 12th August. SHINIES grew out of the late night jams of Ric Stringer, Tom Habens and Adam Davison in a south Manchester basement back in 2011, where they bonded over their love of loud noises, discordant chords, catchy melodies and cheap cider. Joe Fisher has since joined the band on bass. The Tangle EP is a massive evolution from their DIY basement beginnings. Produced by MJ of Hookworms and mastered by Rory Attwell, it is their most refined record to date. All four tracks are classic, euphoric melody-driven lo-fi pop, which takes inspiration from Dinosaur Jnr., Elliot Smith and My Bloody Valentine. It demonstrates their ability to balance poppy hooks with swirling guitars and frantic rhythms and makes them one of 2013’s hottest prospects" (Press)
