"I’ve known Life Size Maps for quite some time now, so I have had the pleasure of seeing first hand how the band has grown. Their new EP, Excavate, was a pleasant surprise. The band has, so it seems, drifted a bit further away from their dream-pop past and have moved into a realm that’s, well, darker. Having gone through a line-up change (current members: Mike McKeever, Matt Gaffney and Emily Panic…whose name gives “Lovecat” a run for my money) Life Size Maps seem to embrace anything new that comes their way. In this case, a new sound. Don’t get me wrong, Excavate still has that LSM dreamy charm, however, songs like ‘Woozy’ and ‘Excavate’ showcase their dabble in electronic sounds. They dive in head first, no looking back, just a bold rush of sound running through your ears, escaping through your glowing eyes. Don’t ask me how it happens, it happens. You’re thrust into space, into an in-between, here not there. You’re caught between listening to the album in your room and whatever place Excavate has taken your mind to. If you’re in disbelief of my ever so vivid description, you can live it for yourself on September 9th at the band’s EP release show. It takes place at 285 Kent, the other bands on the bill include: Xray Eyeballs, Dinowalrus, Grand Resort and Psychobuildings. From the sounds of it, it’s going to be a hell of a night" @LeahLovecat
