"I realise that those of you across the pond have been enduring some kind of crazy heat-wave, but let me tell you: Summer has taken its sweet time arriving in the UK. Still, it’s finally as close to gloriously sunny as we ever get, and with an unerring sense of timing, indie pop charmers Bordeauxxx have delivered their new single, “The Beach Girls And The Monster”.
As with their previous efforts, it’s infectiously upbeat and sure to bring a smile to your face. I mean, it would probably still give you a lift even with a torrential downpour outside your window, but it’s nice to think that the weather and the music are working together for a change. It’s well-worn territory – as mentioned when we Intro‘d them, there is an unmissable Los Campesinos! vibe – but if you’re in need of an unpretentious dose of straightforward fun, Bordeauxxx have just the ticket.
My opinion on the matter? However much music there is in the world with ambitions no loftier than bringing a smile to your face, it’s not enough. Better still, it’s available as a free download via Bandcamp, so there’s really no reason not to treat yourself. Beach barbeques ahoy – I’m pretty confident the titular monster is fictional. Unless they were referring to the next morning’s hangover, in which case we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it" (listenbeforeyoubuy.net)
