"So far San Francisco’s Pair Of Arrows (Swan Palermo on vocals, R/D White) have only one song to their name, but what a song it is! Already strongly established as a respected music act in the world of glitchhop/electronica, R/D spent several years finessing his skills producing his own music as well as performing alongside Beats Antique and Glitch Mob; Swan was simultaneously working with those producers (including Eskmo), laying down tracks characterized by a trip-hop/chillwave ambiance, all the while remaining devoted to penning personal compositions set to music with just her and her piano.
The two were finally introduced when Swan was laying recording vocals with Glitch Mob for the track “Between Two Points”. The timing of their introduction came at a point when R/D was becoming more and more influenced and inspired by indie/folk, singer-songwriter driven music. The duo quickly began working on their debut track “Superimposed”.
“Superimposed” comes off slowly, beginning with a slow burn, chilling strings, then building with lush splendidness, mixing folky mystique with a glistening sheen of electronic layering. Swan’s voice is something in between Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes), and Andrea Estella (Twin Sister). A merging of indie and folktronica, instead of rooting itself firmly in one genre, it explores its sound, weaving through a virtual wonderland of soundscapes.
Combined with a glistening, crystalline clarity, sounding as if it could be a hidden track from “The Neverending Story”, there is a surging, dark and brooding undercurrent lurking just below the surface, giving the sound a defined depth and three-dimensionality rarely found in something recorded from the get-go.
The mixing is sophisticated and thought-provoking, as well as intriguing. It could very well fall the way of various chillwave, setting itself back to austere and cold; instead it is laced throughout with nuance and evocative mood. You stay with it, and let it guide you. If you only have one song to your name, it may as well be one that is so sophisticatedly realized such as “Superimposed”.
Currently finishing up work on their debut album (for which they have started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the completion of), they will be releasing another track from the upcoming album in April and are scheduled to be appearing in various music festivals throughout the summer" (listenbeforeyoubuy.net)
