Bodhi Syurfs: Vhs Sunburn (Ep, 2012)

"I’d say that Bodhi Syurfs has taken a turn for the weird with his latest micro-release VHS SUNBURN, but in all honestly the dude has always been a little different. He is like some sort of weird amoeba that I can’t quite get a fix on with my microscope. Every time I feel like I’m closing in on him he zooms quickly out of frame.
Starting things off with his debut full-length Bodhi Surfs waaay back this summer, his MO was noisy, spastic, drone blurbs. Moving along into this fall he produced the most excellent Midnight Premiere. That release acted like some nightmarish soundtrack to a trash-strewn neo-noir on Hollywood boulevard. Now here we arrive with the EP VHS SUNBURN.
At only three tracks long with each track squeaking in at just under two minutes, the release is short. Painfully short. But it gives us a snapshot of where Bodhi Syurfs warped mind is at. Messing with warbled samples and gnarled fidelity, the tracks really feel like something ripped off of an old VHS. I am not sure if this acts as some sort of harbinger of what’s to come or if it is just another jarring, left turn. Either way I’m definitely along for the ride" (
