Frank Alpine: Night skiy (Single, 2011)

"The romantic, tranquil imagery of a starry night sky with a full moon looming high gets totally flipped on its head by Frank Alpine in "Night Sky" off of his forthcoming self-titled LP for Wierd Records. Instead, Alpine casts it as a relentless and oppressive force; a smoggy tyrant dooming all under his or her rule to a maddening, monotone prison. This doomed cry is given better context with a quote from Rich about the song's origin:
"Night Sky" is a song that was inspired by a poem I found while working at a treatment center for alcoholics and drug addicts. It's a simple story, really: I had composed some music and was scratching my head for lyrics. When I walked into the treatment center one morning, I saw a poem that one of the residents had posted on a corkboard. It was entitled "Night Sky," and it stood out to me instantly. When I read it, the words and music sort of formed together in my mind-- it just felt right. The lyrics are inspired by the poem and are not an exact duplicate. Unfortunately, the treatment center closed down shortly after I composed the song. I was never able to tell the girl of her words that inspired me, but I hope she can hear it sometime. I tried to honor her poem as a cry from that dark place she was in at the time" (Lost:
