"The Wooden Birds are a reincarnation of a number of different acts – Western Keys, American Analog Set, and Matt Pond PA - coming together to create an organic, unique and folk sound. This quartet - Andrew Kenny, Leslie Sisson, Sean Haskins and Matt Pond – comes to us from Austin, TX. Definitely not a stranger when it comes to the touring music scene, The Wooden Birds have made a new name for themselves by performing at SXSW and making the rounds in Europe and the U.S. opening for acts, such as Broken Social Scene, Dan Mangan, and Grand Archives.
Kenny and Sisson’s vocals compliment each other well, as Haskins and Pond’s acoustic guitar strokes and drumbeats create infectious melodies that make you tap your foot incessantly. Their music pulls in country influences, probably from their TX roots, but I also hear slight bluegrass/folk hints throughout “Two Matchsticks.” Sisson also records lead and backup vocals that harmonize beautifully.
