Mercies: In your mind (Single, 2012)

"After SXSW, I was able to listen to their recordings for the first time. They had just released a new EP titled The Ballet that month. Appropriately named, the album features two opening tracks literally composed for a choreographed performance by the Charlottesville Ballet Company that following May. The gorgeous Sigur Ros style instrumentals open the album into a time zone-less atmosphere it seems the band recorded in. Tracks 3, 4, and 5 showcase the Mercies I know; haunting psych-pop with songwriter Josh Rheault crooning like Brian Wilson at his most alien. Bassist Jordan Flowers allows you to witness his subtle mastery in fuzzed out riffs reminiscent of the Family Stone while displaying undying commitment to his spaced-out, falsetto backups. Sammy Dent is possibly the most intelligent drummer on the scene, operating only in the best taste, allowing songs to unfold and command the listener in a way they subconsciously demand. For fans of: Grizzly Bear, The Beach Boys, The Shins" @thinknotsleep
