Cajsa Siik: Higher (Video-Single, 2014)

Higher is the second single taken out of her upcoming new album Contra. Having had her first single Relentless Delight pushed and supported by the likes of NME, Clash, and Indie Shuffle, the latest single had to be a worthy follow-up. Luckily Higher, already supported by BBC6, Amazing Radio, Under The Radar, Earmilk etc etc, is a great example of bringing the essence of art-pop to its full notion and restlessness. Cajsa Siik knows exactly how to remain sonically insatiable whilst still giving her listeners a solid foothold. Her sensual vocals are a clear contrast to the enigmatic and textured arrangements. They fit perfectly with the minimalistic orchestration that supports her every word from the very first bar. The overall production is contained yet exciting, with a steady rhythm pulsating in the background resembling somewhat Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know. The hand-tapping beats and Cajsa Siik’s captivating lyrics both leave the listener charmed and incapable of resisting the repeat button.

Cajsa Siik: Relentless delight (Single, 2014)

The single Relentless Delight with its pulsating, dark drum sound, combined with Cajsa Siik’s characteristic powerful and at the same time fragile vocals will be released on May 12th, and invites you to join an evocative world. It is produced by Cajsa together with Calle Ekerstam and Rolf Klinth (Tiger Lou etc), as is the subsequent full-length album “Contra”. The debut album, “Plastic House” (2012), which contained the Swedish Radio hit single “Was I Supposed To”, gave Cajsa Siik a small breakthrough. Since then her music has been spread internationally through radio, blogs and television shows like “The Michael J Fox Show”, “Awkward” and “Ravenswood”. Recent years have also included tour dates in Great Britain, Germany and France.

“One afternoon in Los Angeles, I decided to climb a mountain. Nearest to me were the Hollywood Hills, whose iron-rich and earthy soil, was a far cry from the hard granite I was used to in the north of Sweden. Once at the top, I recorded a brief live set before the heat forced me back down the hills again.” “A year passed and when I played the clip back I found I had recorded it in black and white. The spectacular and hazy backdrop of Los Angeles that I remembered had been transformed into the mountainous vast grey expanses of my Swedish north.” “That moment became my contrast and shaped the idea, that regardless of location, Los Angeles or Västerbotten in Sweden, I always carry those contrasts, those distinct and conflicting voices with me. For better or for worse. And with that, a seed was planted; a seed that resulted in Relentless Delight and the album Contra.” “The songs were written on Tom’s veranda in a sunny Los Angeles, during numbingly freezing Stockholm nights and in a white house on an island in the barren Gulf of Bothnia. Cajsa Siik: The fix (Single, 2013)

"The Fix is a conversation I had with myself once, about freedom and escapism" says Cajsa about the single. The song is a sparse and somewhat danceable number where drum machines collide with guitars that echo of David Bowie's China Girl. The working title of the upcoming album is Contra. It was recorded by Rolf Klint and produced by Cajsa and Calle Ekerstam. The music came out of a creative chaos where making progress became more important than getting bogged down in the tedious overthinking of what was actually being recorded. The mostly unedited lyric is a good example of this. "Contra is about contrast and opposites. Hard meets frail, acceptance meets denial and dream meets reality. We entered this bubble and threw objectivity out the window. Gut feeling was our only compass."

Cajsa Siik es una chica sueca ya conocida en el blog, que estuvo una buena temporada viviendo en Sevilla y empapándose de los ambientes y de las músicas patrias. No sé si éso se refleja directamente en su música (me da a mí que no), aunque un título tan español como Dalí desde luego sí que tiene algo de nacional. En cualquier caso, el Pop intimista de Cajsa tiene su reflejo en este segundo sencillo adelanto de su inminente nuevo trabajo, que aparecerá en Diciembre, en la órbita de Birds Will Sing for You Records: Plastic House (2012).
